Fun in Coding with Dash Robot! (Treasures in the Library)

While looking for something interesting to do and borrow on the city library website, I came across this robot learning kit. My eldest is into puzzles, chess, and strategy games, so this coding robot kit is perfect for him. Out of curiosity, I just clicked borrow, and then the next day we received a message from the library that we could pick it up already. My son used it right away!

Photo: this is the actual kit we borrowed. We can borrow it for 3 weeks.

Meet Dash, the Robot

Wonder Workshop is the maker of Dash Robot. It is a smart robot that responds to voices, and sounds, and it can sing and dance which makes it more fun and interactive. My youngest even pretends it is her pet (silly girl 😁). To start, you need to download their apps (for free) on your mobile device (or tablet). There are hundreds of coding adventures to learn creative problem-solving in their various apps. Moreover, it's newbie-friendly, and no need for any coding background.

The kit consists of :

  • Dash the Robot
  • Charger (USB cable)
  • Accessories (bunny ears, tail, bulldozer, headgear)
  • Manual or booklet

I'm still amazed that we can borrow this kit for free and this goes to show how Canada makes learning accessible to everyone, and for that I am grateful.

Interested? You can also borrow it from this site (click here). But take note, you need to have a library card first to borrow. Not from Surrey? Check in your local public library to see if they are also offering this for your kid(s).
