Fun in Learning this Summer!

Summer is just around the corner (amidst the occasional rain), and aside from visits to the parks, beaches, and lakes, your kids can find treasures of activities in between. Sharing these 2 club activities that kids can join. I found these being offered in Surrey Library. The first is the Code Combat and the other one is the Summer Reading Club.

CODE COMBAT

It's a game where you have to code your character to achieve certain goals such as battling, dodging, grabbing gems, etc. As the kids go through the game's level, they get to learn coding in a fun and interesting way. Take note that you have to go to the Surrey Library website first, and to access it you need to input your library card number and passcode. You have the option of going to the code combat website, but you can only avail few levels. So it is better to sign up and get yourself a library card.

SUMMER READING CLUB (SRC) - Begins on June 19!

How it works? After you register, your child will receive a reading record for tracking purposes, a bookmark, and a prize draw entry. Yes, there is a prize! The child gets to have a medal after finishing the assigned readings. Then, he/she will be eligible to join the Grand Prize Contest wherein the child can win $100. To join, go to this site for detailed steps - click here

Benefits:

  • Grow Literacy Skills - research shows that those who join here gain significant reading comprehension
  • Enjoy reading and prevent "summer drain"
  • Ready for the next school year
Do you have other summer activities in mind? Feel free to share below if you have any. Not interested in these two, then try to browse in your local library website. I'm sure you'll see treasures of fun.
