Fun Things to Do in A Library - Kids Edition

Newcomers with kids, like us, love to explore areas that are accessible, kid-friendly, and do not hit your pockets (it's FREE!). We’ve been here in Surrey City, B.C. for 6 months, and our go-to place is the City Centre Surrey Library. We love the architecture as well as its ambiance.

More than Reading!

Reading can be fun, especially if one is a bookworm. But it becomes extra FUN if you can play with educational toys and get to know other kids. The city public libraries have a dedicated area for kids wherein it's okay to make appropriate noise, play Lego with friends, and do arts & crafts, so others who like peace and quiet will not be disturbed. As a mom, it added that safe space feeling wherein I am not worried that my kids are bothering others, and kids can be kids. Do you agree?

Weekly activities of Surrey libraries are mostly:

  • Toddler, family, and pajama Storytime with Lego Duplo
  • Family Lego Club
  • Arts and crafts activities
  • Baby time with their guardian
  • Family movie

No need to have a library card to join in these weekly activities. The library card is used if you want to borrow books or other media as well as to access their desktop computers. I made a collage of photos sharing our experience.

As an overview, I created a calendar view of the weekly activities in the City Centre and Guildford branches. These activities are all free and no registration is needed (unless specified on their website).

There is a lot to watch out and to know more, visit the Surrey Libraries website by clicking here. I hope to see some of you on our next visit to the library.
